Captain Shamus O'Shannon
and Lady Wild Rose O'Shannon
Karen Shannon is an excellent seamstress and
made the clothing they are wearing in this
picture taken at the Shakespeare Festival in '98. Karen is an excellent
cook. She also is a brilliant person, fun to be around, she will sit and
chat almost all night on any given topic you choose to discuss!
Jim Shannon II is in charge of club safety and one
of the club founders. He can answer just about
any question about swordfighting you can throw at
him. He teaches collegiate fencing as well as renaissance fighting. Ask him what he did in college I dare you!
The Captain Replies, “What,
Me?! I’m old and slow…I just have you all psyched out! Anyone
can beat anyone any day. The odds are, however, that one or the other will
be better overall, but the newest newbie can beat a Champion at any moment.
Just don’t bet on it happening very often …”
The Good Captain and his lady have two daughters who
have picked up the blade now that they are of an age to do so.
Lady Rachel has been fencing for 2 years now, and enjoys fighting with saber. The
most memorable quotes from her have to deal with a dagger however, from her
godfather, Landron Di Borgia, when she stabbed him in the back as part of the
Maidens Plight at Spring Steel last year. He wasn’t sure whether to
be proud or worried immensely about her and her cold attitude. The other
quote is, “Oh, my arm!”
Here is a picture of Rachel in action at McPherson Highland Games Sept. ’02. Her cousin Garieth is down
beside her.
Little Miss Rebecca just turned 10, and already is learning the art
of defence. Rebecca has decided that she is going
to follow in her favorite pirates’ footsteps (namely, Opie… Not
Dad…) and
has formed the Power Puff Pirates with some of the other young lasses who
are with the group. She’ll
have her own boat by 12…
Here is Little
Miss practicing with a boffer at our Sunday
night practice.
